Operating amid one of the nation’s greatest concentrations of courts, legislative bodies, and government agencies, the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies (AYSPS) brings the different lenses of public policy, social work, criminology, and economics together into focus. Ranked among America’s top 10 percent of public affairs graduate schools by U.S. News & World Report, the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies (AYSPS) is home to Georgia State’s degree programs in economics, public management and administration, criminal justice and criminology and social work. It also houses 11 major research units, including the new Urban Studies Institute. The Andrew Young School works to advance economic opportunity, human rights, and social justice. It strengthens communities across the globe via policy research, scholarship, public engagement and the development of leaders. Located in downtown Atlanta, it is internationally recognized for its impact and influence on public policy and management issues that affect communities and local, state and national governments around the world.

The Center for State and Local Finance (CSLF) is a policy think tank within the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. CSLF was created in 2014 to showcase the school’s nationally-ranked public finance faculty and share its expertise with policymaker and practitioner communities. CSLF produces innovative, applied research to inform data-driven policy making in the public sector and hosts top-notch executive education courses to train the next generation of government finance leaders. Our mission is to develop the people and ideas for next generation public finance.

CSLF’s economists and public policy experts specialize in four areas of public finance — economic development and urban policy, education finance, budgeting and fiscal health, and tax policy and reform. Much of our research is rooted in our home state of Georgia, but our findings have implications nationally. Utilizing academic literature and methods, we produce nonpartisan research that policymakers and practitioners can use to improve communities.

In order to continue with the current, growing workload for the center as well as to support new project proposals, CSLF is seeking a talented and multi-faceted senior research associate to lead its budgeting and fiscal health work.

The CSLF team works collaboratively on projects, and each researcher brings expertise to one or more policy areas. Our senior research associates author, manage, and present findings from our research projects and policy reports. In addition to working with other team members, research associates routinely partner with senior faculty members on grants and academic publications and regularly interact with policymakers and agency leaders in Georgia and beyond.

The new senior research associate will review, research and analyze state and local fiscal health, budget policies, and other economic and fiscal policies at an advanced level and serve in a leadership role in the center's projects. The work will include analyzing large datasets, writing reports, and making written and oral presentations. The senior research associate will lead project teams that include research associates and graduate research assistants. The senior research associate will also be involved in grant writing as appropriate. Travel commitments are limited for this position, but conference presentations and other training opportunities are encouraged.
