Position Description:
Community Health & Adolescent Mentoring Program for Success (CHAMPS) is a grant funded program based at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland (UBCHO). Founded in 1999, under the name FACES for the Future, the program is designed to address the need for diversity in the healthcare professions and the need for minority adolescent advocacy and professional development. The program serves under-represented minority high school students in the Oakland and Berkeley areas, and prepares them for careers in healthcare through health careers training, clinical internships, academic support activities, mentoring and a case-management/psychosocial support program. Additionally, the program works with college students to support them in their efforts to become healthcare professionals.

Under the management of the Program Director, the CHAMPS Program Manager oversees the planning, development and implementation of the daily operational activities of the program. The Program Manager supervises other CHAMPS staff, and is directly responsible for coordination and communication of program budget and expenses, and legal documents, e.g. MOU's, contracts, under supervision of the Program Director. This position will have major responsibility in program development and stewardship, including but not limited to fundraising, program evaluation, and marketing and public relations.

Job Requirements:
Education : Masters degree in a related field, or a combination of training and experience that could provide the desired knowledge and skills.
Preferred Education : Masters in social work, public health, business, education, or related field preferred; or a combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and skills.
Required Licenses & Certifications : Valid CA drivers' license.
Experience: Minimum of 5-years management and/or planning experience working in the non-profit sector, especially in the areas of education, youth development or career/professional training. Experience with program evaluation, grant-writing, and stewardship is essential. General knowledge of current health care delivery systems, both hospital-based and community-based, and of health care careers is essential. 3 years experience with adolescents in a diverse and multicultural setting.

Must have exceptional leadership and organizational skills, and ability to effectively manage a small program staff.
Ability to multitask, work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be proficient in computer basics, including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
Familiarity with the Oakland and Berkeley public high schools is preferred.
Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish).
Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
Able to travel to community partners and perform site visits regularly.
