We seek a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on a 2-year project funded by the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI) which will examine the community structure and trophic ecology of deep-pelagic plankton assemblages, and their connectivity with the upper ocean.

The postdoc will oversee the day-to-day management of the project, in consultation with the project PIs, and will lead research efforts related to data base management, laboratory analyses, data synthesis and analysis, and publication of results in peer-review journals. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identification of deep water ichthyoplankton and zooplankton of the Gulf of Mexico, including the training of others in such identification

  • Preparation of project reports and peer-review manuscripts
Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have a doctorate degree in biological/fisheries oceanography or a related field, and a demonstrated ability in publishing results in the peer-reviewed literature. Applicants should have a strong quantitative background, including multivariate statistical approaches.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include: experience in ichthyoplankton or zooplankton taxonomy and identification, particularly mesopelagic taxa; previous research experience related to plankton trophic ecology; and experience managing large databases.
