Under the direction of the Vice President, Academic Affairs, provides District leadership and facilitates professional activities in pathways design, development and implementation; accreditation, approval processes, the implementation of the enrollment management plan and facilities utilization; instructional program review; and the development, utilization and evaluation of necessary information support systems required by Academic Affairs and supported by Instructional and Information Technology Services (IITS).

The Associate Dean is responsible for leadership, direction, general supervision, and evaluation of educational programs and services as assigned and will provide general staff support to the instructional programs of the college. The Associate Dean serves as a college-wide administrative officer. The Associate Dean provides opportunity for involvement by staff as appropriate in consideration and discussion of the development of policy, procedures, and programs. The leadership, supervision, planning, implementation, and coordination responsibilities entail working with managers, faculty, staff, students, and appropriate college committees and councils to assure that the instructional goals and delivery systems are meeting student-learning needs and are aligned with district goals and objectives. In addition, the Associate Dean functions effectively as a member of an administrative team; and works effectively with and evidences sensitivity toward persons at all levels of the college.

Develop, evaluate and maintain appropriate information support systems within Academic Affairs and between Academic Affairs and other administrative areas.
Articulate the needs of Academic Affairs to Instructional and Information Technology Services and keep them apprised of the implications for information systems due to changes in state reporting requirements and curriculum or instructional policy.
Assist and support guided pathways and educational partnerships.
Assist and support student success initiatives and implementation of the Strategic Plan.
Provide leadership and support to the accreditation process.
Support and facilitate instructional program review.
Provide leadership and facilitation in the implementation of the District enrollment management plan and facilities utilization improvement efforts.
Participate in the evaluation of faculty and staff.
Participate in state, regional, and national activities to maintain a leadership position utilizing emerging theory, research, and practices.
Plan, organize, control, and direct assigned instructional units in addition to assigned instructional support services.
Provide program analysis and multi-year educational plans and participate in strategic and long-range instructional planning for the district.
Assure compliance with California Education Code and the California Code of Regulations.
Analyze a variety of data and statistics and prepare comprehensive reports as necessary; assure submission of required reports on a timely basis.
Communicate with leaders in the private and public sectors and in educational agencies to determine needs for new instructional services and programs; establish advisory committees as appropriate.
Confer with faculty regarding ideas for program improvement to identify resources for development through grants and special projects.
Develop the unit budget and manage financial resources consistent with district policy and sound financial management principles.
Work cooperatively with other administrators and supervisors to integrate and coordinate programs and services across the curriculum and at all locations to meet student needs; resolve conflicts and issues within and between units.
Encourage excellence in teaching and in providing support services and program development; orient new faculty and staff; determine needs for staff development.
Maintain current knowledge of new developments and innovations in community colleges and higher education in general; recommend changes to maintain relevance of unit programs and to meet student and community needs.
Organize and chair meetings, lead workshops, facilitate group discussions and involve faculty and staff in idea generation, goal setting, and decision-making.
Make presentations as necessary to various groups with the district, community and state.
Perform other duties as assigned.
This position reports to the Vice President, Academic Affairs and supervises and evaluates assigned staff.

Responsible for effectively recommending the hire, transfer, suspension, lay-off, promotion, assignment, discipline, training, professional development, assignment, direction and evaluation of work, and adjustment of grievances of all assigned staff; administering collective bargaining agreements, employment and promotion selection procedures, and compliance with District policies, rules and regulations regarding personnel; evaluation of the performance of assigned staff, providing direction and assistance wherever a need for improvement is identified.



Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree from an accredited institution, or possession of a valid California Community College Supervisory Credential AND
One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment AND
Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications:
Possession of an earned doctorate.
Three years of extensive and progressively responsible experience in the administration of educational programs and services or reasonably related field, in a community college or university environment.
Two years teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
An understanding of management information systems, planning, or other systematic decision-making processes.
Experience with management information software such as PeopleSoft enterprise resource planning software and ability to problem solve data integrity issues and write basic queries against that information system.
Three years of administrative experience in the areas of leadership, organization, planning, development, staffing, budget management, evaluation, and supervision reasonably related to the administrative assignment.
Commitment to the philosophy and value of institutional participatory governance based upon a genuine sharing of responsibility.

This is a twelve-month position for the academic year with an annual salary range of $113,809- $155,065; Range 13 on the Management Team Salary Schedule (effective 9/1/2017). Initial Step placement will not exceed Step 5 for this range, $135,701. The District contributes to medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents and life insurance for the employee. Benefits also include 21 vacation days and 5 management leave days.
