The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is recruiting for a Long-Term Non-Permanent Library Assistant I.
Under the general direction of a Librarian III this position is stationed at Alaska Resources Library and Information. The Library Assistant I is assigned with technical work that requires the interpretation and the application of library procedures and methods. An incumbent's knowledge of library operations, especially in a library technical services department, will constitute effective assistance in providing quality library services to ADF&G and ADF&Gā€“related projects. Funding for the position is provided by grants and contracts and the duration of the position will not exceed June 30, 2018. The job is at Range 11.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following tasks:

Wildlife Conservation Division database project:
  • Bibliographic searching in SIRSI and OCLC for elements (title, author, and subject) needed to be input into database
  • Retrieve and enter data for use in database project
  • Use information tools such as print and electronic indexes, catalogs, and databases
  • Utilize computer software programs to maintain logs, records, and statistics on tasks accomplished
Library Operations Assistance:
  • Scan library materials to fulfil ADF&G staff requests
  • Help to correct previously-distributed ADF&G reports when errors are discovered, involving upgrading print and electronic copies, and re-binding
  • Order, maintain, and track supply orders placed with ADF&G resources
The successful candidate will have some or all of the following desired strengths (to receive an interview, all of the following desired strengths must be documented in your cover letter. Work experience with library records
Familiarity with database structure and input
Familiarity with electronic document retrieval and storage

Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously
Experience in completing projects on-time and meeting project objectives

High school diploma or GED certificate
AND either
One year of advanced level clerical work reviewing and processing documents which requires knowledge, understanding, and the ability to apply appropriate criteria, rules, regulations, and policies and procedures. The required experience includes work such as Administrative Clerk III or Human Resource Assistant with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Two years of journey level clerical office experience in a library or archive. The required experience is met by service as an Administrative Clerk II with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Post secondary education from an accredited college (3 semester or 4 quarter hours equal one month) in any field may substitute for the required experience.
