The Division of Women’s Health and the Connors Center for Women’s Health at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is seeking a Research Assistant to work on clinical neuroscience and neuroimaging related to reward processing in obesity and depression (PI: Laura Holsen). The focus of our lab is on understanding factors (including genotype, sex, neuroendocrine functioning, cognitive functioning, neural circuitry activity, diet, stress, and mood) that drive appetite, eating behaviors, and weight change, with a broad goal of ameliorating negative health outcomes and chronic diseases associated with obesity and disordered eating, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and psychiatric disorders such as depression, particularly among women. In our work, we explore these themes using various neuroimaging approaches (BOLD fMRI, arterial spin labeling) in combination with neuroendocrine measurements and behavioral assessments, with foundational work focused on genetic mechanisms. We work in close collaboration with colleagues in psychiatry, nutrition, endocrinology, and radiology/functional neuroimaging. There is subject contact so we are looking for people who would enjoy patient contact. We have an extensive training program and continuous supervision. Therefore given how much time and resources are put into training and supervision, a two year commitment is preferred. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The RA will work within a team approach and will be responsible for conducting neuroimaging and administrative work associated with running the studies on adult subjects. He/she will be systematically trained in functional magnetic resonance imaging (scanning and data analyses) and the day-to-day operations of the studies, such as scheduling imaging time and recruiting and scanning subjects. There will be regular and continued supervision by the PI and the team. He/she will participate in statistical analyses of data and contribute to publications. The RA will also be responsible for clerical needs, creation of diagrams, images, etc. related to preparation of presentations and manuscripts.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in psychology, psychobiology, neuroscience, or related discipline strongly preferred. BA/BS in psychology, psychobiology, neuroscience, or related discipline required.

Some knowledge of neuroanatomy is preferred and an interest in psychology and neuroscience preferred.

Good technical, interpersonal, and communication skills necessary; aptitude for computerized data analyses preferred.

Some experience/knowledge with imaging procedures, fMRI data analysis, and programming in MATLAB and/or Unix/Linux is strongly preferred.
