Plans, coordinates and directs the functions of the Conservatory Percussion program; Teaches a well rounded percussion curriculum in battery, auxiliary, mallets, music theory, etc; ensures the quality of programs and safety of youth at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to youth and ensures safety and a positive experience for campers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This position summary should not be interpreted as all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position. Teaches a well balanced percussion curriculum that includes traditional and contemporary elements. Provide the necessary instruction required to produce legitimate, classically trained percussionists capable of reading music and playing a variety of percussion instruments. Provide appropriate lessons for instruction time; Review assigned homework with students and re-teach skills if necessary; Prepare students for recitals and performances; Supervises the maintenance and daily operations of the program equipment; Recommends and develops activities which will develop creative abilities, motor and learning skills of students; Coordinates the program and activity with the policies and operating procedures of c& Maintains discipline and acceptable behaviors of students, which will create an atmosphere of friendliness and security during all program periods; Supervises and organizes an assigned group of campers during scheduled and unscheduled blocks of time in cooperation with camp rules and regulations; Promotes and stimulates participation of campers to ensure a pleasant camp experience; Participate and assist in various classes as assigned; Schedules performances and ensures that all necessary supplies for a performance are donated or purchased.

Required Experience:
Knowledge and ability to teach a legitimate, classically driven percussion program. Ability to assist youth in planning and goal setting for personal and team activities; Ability to recruit and train volunteers; Ability to work with diverse people from all social and economic backgrounds. MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff; Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques; Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity; Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers; Ability to demonstrate all percussion techniques that campers will be learning.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Some physical requirements of the Percussion Studio Coordinator position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. The conservatory schedule operates 7 days a week, and all staff members are expected to be available for duty at all times unless otherwise noted by the Conservatory Director. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

Required Education:
Six months experience teaching percussion, with the ability to perform and teach lessons in a classroom setting involving more than one student preferred, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Additional Comments:
Camp Staff Orientation is from June 6th--June 11th. Camp sessions run from June 12th--July 16th. If for whatever reason you are unable to be here for the entire season please let us know on your application. Orientation is not optional.
