Responsibilities and Qualifications

Overview:
A chance to be a part of transforming health care by pioneering a new integrated care model-- This position offers an experienced clinician the opportunity to be a part of an integrated care team delivering behavioral health services to children/ adolescents within a virtual setting. This program is designed to support Mercy pediatricians and family medicine physicians who are caring for children with behavioral health needs. He/She will collaborate with the medical team members, and primary care provider(parent) to coordinate a plan of care targeting the patient’s behavioral health symptoms impacting physical well- being. All Mental Health Specialists will provide direct clinical counseling services targeting identified mental health symptoms within the framework of a cognitive behavioral model. They will document in the ongoing medical plan of care within the electronic medical record supporting a holistic approach to achieving patients’ desired outcomes. They will actively participate in daily communication and coordination of services with the medical team in order to meet both patient and physician goals.

Responsibilities:
Provide direct clinical services and interventions to pediatric patient population with an emphasis on strong core counseling skills within, but not limited to a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Problem Solving Skills Development, and a solution focused framework. Skills rehearsed and interventions utilized will be documented in the EMR in a timely and thorough manner.

Document assessments and care plan within the EMR, or an alternative platform yet to be determined, in a timely manner with an emphasis on desired patient, family, and physician outcomes.

Assess patients referred to the VCC Mercy Kids platform in a timely manner; including but not limited to the patient’s current mental health symptoms/ diagnosis impacting their presenting medical issues.

Clinicians will communicate and collaborate with treatment team members on a daily basis in order to ensure best care practices are being maintained. Will communicate patient mental health goals, and any changes in symptom status to interdisciplinary treatment team. Will utilize input to revise care plan for optimum patient benefit.

Provide appropriate crisis interventions as needed, and coordination with after-hours resources in accordance with department policies and procedures.

Maintain standards as relates to mandated reporter in cases of suspected abuse and/or neglect.

Demonstrates flexibility regarding caseload, assignments, and change.

Clinicians will actively engage with the primary caregivers for the child on a consistent basis. This clinician will be responsible for coordinating follow up/aftercare services with any community/family resources to enhance/maintain patient and physician long term desired outcomes.

Will regularly participate in any department meetings and huddles, including continuous quality improvement projects.

Will demonstrate competency and comfort with telehealth platform.

Keeps themselves informed of and adheres to any regulatory changes/standards and Joint Commission standards.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Education:
Masters of Social Work or Masters of Counseling

Licensure:
Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Missouri
Licensed Clinical Social Worker in State of Missouri

Experience:
Minimum of five years experience in a behavioral health clinical setting providing direct care with adolescent/pediatric population, working as a part of a clinical treatment team, and utilizing cognitive behavioral and solution focused interventions

Certification/Registration:
BLS (Basic Life Support) or CPR

Other Skills and Knowledge:
Demonstrates strong rapport building skills
Knowledge of and experience with multiple patient diagnosis is preferred.
Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills, including active listening skills
Demonstrates strong computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft office, web based resources and apps
Demonstrates a strong systems focus and adherence to a team care approach
Demonstrates strong critical thinking skills in managing complicated patient populations
