Assist with activities associated with the Houston Methodist Community Benefits (CB) Department and the Houston Methodist Graduate Medical Education (GME) Department. This role will coordinate and maintain departmental initiatives associated with graduate/community medical education, charity care, community benefit activities and compliance with federal and state regulations. This role will primarily focus on facilitation of the Houston Methodist (HM) community education program also known as the Methodist Scholars Program, general data collection, management of the community education program spending plans, assistance with the HM Community Benefit Grant process, research for the system Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), and overall serve as a general liaison between HM and the community partner clinics.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PEOPLE—20%

  • Serves as a point of contact for HM community partners/charitable agencies and community clinics on behalf of CB and GME.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of internal staff as well as work cross-departmentally.

    FINANCE – 10%

  • Assist with reporting system in association with yearly grant process.

  • Monitor spending plans and budget for assigned programs.

    QUALITY/SAFETY - 20 %

  • Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards.

  • Maintain a high quality level on all projects and assignments consistent with the standard of excellence within the department.

    SERVICE - 30%

  • Coordinates activities associated with the HM’s community based education/Scholars Program to ensure compliance of program requirements and needs.

  • Work with the GME team, CB team, faculty and learners to ensure objective are able to be reached and needs are being met. Also, work with the Foundation to ensure program spending plans are on track.

  • Work with HM system hospitals regarding referrals for higher acuity care or testing.

  • Serve as a liaison for community partner clinic issues and needs while also working to identify opportunities for expansion of HM’s community education program. (i.e. specialty care service expansion, new host sites, etc.)

  • Assist with the Community Benefits Grant review process.

  • Assist with the process of producing the annual Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) by locating viable information sources internally and externally for CHNA and general data collection.

  • All other duties as assigned.

    GROWTH/INNOVATION - 20%

  • Consistently evaluate departmental programs for opportunities to enhance and increase impact/outcome.

  • Works independently with minimal supervision. Must be resourceful in seeking solutions, be pro-active and have the ability to handle multiple projects at one time with extreme attention to detail.

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

    Bachelor’s degree in one of the following: Public Health, Communications, Business or other related fields.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    Minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare delivery or academic setting. Some experience in a health science center, nonprofit or higher education setting is preferred.
