This specific park education programmer position will work with team leaders including other staff, volunteers and organizations to create a vibrant array of nature and outdoor educational programs primarily at the new Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve.Working under the direct supervision of the park's naturalist/director, candidates must possess a "can do attitude," good communication skills and the ability to interact with the public.In carrying out daily work assignments, supervision may be exercised over various work crews, volunteers, staff, visitors and other potential constituents young and old.Program development will include developing and leading an infinite variety of adventure tours and outdoor educational programs combined to bring awareness and appreciation of the natural resources found along our local greenways, parks and trails in Precinct 4.Applicant should be self-motivated, willing to work outdoors, and not be afraid to get their hands dirty, yet able to conduct a variety of activities in the course of a normal day.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent is willing to lead a variety of outdoor type programs. Adapts to a variety of situations, personalities, and available resources. Alert to public safety and work hazards at all times. Answers correspondence and questions from the public related to programs and facilities. Collects, organizes, and maintains records of attendance, successes and failures in the program schedule and files reports. Helps develop yearly budgets and supplies for program, tours and equipment. Conducts advance planning of work itineraries, staff schedules, transportation, logistics and equipment needs. Develops interpretive programs, promotional materials and publicity articles/submittals. Enforces park rules/regulations and policies where applicable. Interacts directly with other departments, staff, interns, volunteers and other organizations within job duties. Maintains quality and appearance of equipment including canoes, kayaks, pontoon boat, bicycles, trailers, vehicles etc. as acquired for program. Performs equipment maintenance and assists with special projects as needed. Plans public educational programs conducted at the park for groups and organizations with various topics emphasized. Plans and helps execute special events and festivals held throughout the year. Presents or hosts various natural/living history programs throughout the year. Writes informational articles for park publications and newspapers. Other duties may be assigned.
