This is a highly skilled technical and supervisory position responsible for operating and managing the marine fleet program for state parks in the Champlain Islands. Work includes but is not limited to operating and maintaining a large passenger ferry boat, a landing craft, a fleet of smaller vessels, and the Burton Island State Park marina and mooring field as well as providing training and supervision of seasonal park staff.

General Job Description

The State of Vermont's Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation is seeking a new Marine Operations Supervisor to support the operations and maintenace of a fleet of vessels for state parks in the Champlain Islands. We are seeking an individual who is highly skilled in marine technical work. As a Marine Operations Supervisor, you will have a wide variety of responsibilities from the oversight, operations and maintenance of a large passenger ferry, landing craft and a variety of marine vessels on Lake Champlain to the hiring, supervision and management of seasonal staff and other personnel involved in the management of State Park campgrounds, marinas and mooring fields. The Marine Operations Supervisor will also hire and train Ferry Boat Captains and/or Contracted Captains in safe, efficient operations of the Island Runner Ferryboat, as well as personally operating the Island Runner Ferryboat as needed. You will also oversee Burton Island's 100-slip marina and 13 moorings.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of experience operating ferry boats or large vessels on inland lakes or ocean environment.
Degree in Marine Science or graduate of a Marine Academy.

Possession of a valid Operator's License.
Possession of, or eligible to obtain a valid USCG 50 ton Master License or greater.
Possession of, or eligible to obtain a Vermont Boaters' Safety License.
NOTE: A Vermont Operator's License and a Vermont Boaters' Safety License must be obtained within 90 days of hire as a condition of employment. US Coast Guard 100 ton Master License or greater must be obtained within 180 days of hire as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

One (1) year or more of supervisory experience.
