The Department of Natural Resources is hiring a Laborer stationed at New Glarus Woods State Park in Green County.

New Glarus Woods is a 435-acre state park offering camping, hiking, picnicking and snowshoeing. The park also offers direct access to The Sugar River State Trail, a 24-mile linear trail surfaced with compressed limestone screenings, for bicycling, hiking, snowmobiling and, in some areas, hunting.

Position Summary :
This position will primarily be responsible for cleaning and maintaining day use and camping areas. This includes the following tasks: Mow grass, pick up litter, clean restrooms, campfire rings, and picnic grills. Remove trees and brush. Perform general maintenance duties. Develop and maintain trail surfaces. Install signs. Haul garbage. Paint grills and picnic tables. Operate vehicles and light equipment. Perform minor plumbing and electrical duties.

Special Notes :
This is a limited term (LTE) position. Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin. LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period. In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

**** Due to the nature of this position the Department of Natural Resources will conduct a comprehensive criminal background check on applicants prior to selection. Qualifications :
Required Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and skills in general and preventive maintenance duties including janitorial, grounds work, and painting.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills.
  • Must be able to operate vehicles and light equipment. Heavy lifting is required.
  • Must be a self-starter who is punctual and can work independently as well as with co-workers.
  • Due to equipment usage, you must have a valid operator's license, a minimum of two years licensed driving experience and must be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous park and grounds maintenance and custodial experience
  • Experience using hand and power tools
