FSDB SALARY RANGE – 12 MONTH POSITION: $24,579.62 - $29,079.62 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience and education. *Position is eligible for additional $1.00 per hour due to majority of shift being between 5:00pm – 6:00am. Pay additive is dependent on agency funding.

REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma or its equivalent and one year of experience in radio-teletype operations, sworn law enforcement, dispatching, forestry, firefighting, or other public contact work. College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for the required experience. Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required high school education.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Applicants under consideration for employment at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind will be required to complete background investigation. Fingerprints will be taken and sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a background check of your criminal history record(s) at the state and national level.

WORK LOCATION: Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, 207 North San Marco Avenue, St. Augustine, Florida

WORK HOURS: Sunday - Thursday, 2:00pm – 10:00pm.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Answers incoming emergency telephone calls for service from the campus and general information telephone calls that come into the Communications Center. Keeps all callers calm as they handle any given situation. Communicates to the police officer accurate information they receive from a caller. Communicates via two-way radio with Police Officers that are on campus, maintaining their location and status at all times. Maintains communications with other agencies when the Police Officers requests outside assistance. Operates the FCIC/NCIC computer and operates a police information data base computer. Monitors various alarm systems and weather notifications. Call in work orders to Customer Service Center. Must be able to use a multi pager system. Assist citizens/visitors that are received at the Communication Center for assistance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of appropriate ways of dealing with individuals in a crisis situation. Ability to make decisions and function effectively in high stress, emergency situations. Ability to respond to the public in a calm, effective manner. Ability to operate a radio-teletype and other related communication equipment. Ability to speak clearly and listen effectively. Ability to coordinate and disseminate information. Ability to learn and effectively use existing computer programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain an Intermediate proficiency in sign language, within three years of hire. Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.
