The Arizona Attorney General’s Office Criminal Division/Special Investigations Section is seeking a Special Agent assigned to the Healthcare Fraud & Abuse Units. The employee will conduct full investigations of violations of Arizona Criminal statutes. The employee will also provide investigative and litigation support for investigations involving serious felonies, white collar crimes, organized crimes, with an emphasis on fraud and abuse perpetrated by medical providers, as well as large sacle drug diversion investigations. The employee will perform tasks requiring certification as a Peace Officer by AZPOST. Successful criminal and civil allocations, through partnerships with other agencies, and prosecutions will result from the employee's investigative work. This will be accomplished largely through production of investigative reports, evidence collection, suspect/witness interviews and court testimony. The employee must be safety conscious and use proper work methods by following standard police policies and procedures. The selected Special Agent is also responsible for conducting criminal fraud investigations; experience in undercover operations, use of electronic devices, control of confidential informants and having the ability to comprehend financial and medical records. The Special Agent will be accountable for usage, knowledge and safe usage of all specialized equipment; such as covert transmitters, radios, and weapons. The employee will be a prominent and quite visible member of the criminal division who will directly interface with community leaders in the State of Arizona on issues relating to health care fraud, prescription drug diversion, and elder crime issues.

While this assignment is within the Healthcare Fraud and Abuse Unit, Special Agents can be assigned to work anywhere within the Special Investigations Section.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Travel is required for this position. A valid Arizona Driver’s License is required, along with giving consent to have your driving record run periodically.
  • Requires certification by the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (A.Z P.O.S.T.).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Knowledge needed:
  • Complete working knowledge of the Arizona criminal statutes with an emphasis on fraud and abuse by medical providers.
  • Considerable knowledge of criminal litigation, investigative interviews, report writing, and undercover techniques.
  • Must know asset and tracing procedures, rules of evidence, investigative techniques and methods, evidence collection, use of confidential informants, search and seizure, methods of evidence collection, and testifying in administrative and court proceedings.
  • Studied courses specializing in surveillance equipment/techniques
  • Attended training seminars in use of informants and undercover operations.
  • Read manuals and other training materials related to law enforcement.
  • Interested in working in an undercover capacity with other law enforcement agencies.
Skills needed:
  • Skilled in oral and written communication.
  • Skilled in witness interviewing, report writing, asset tracing, search warrant laws and techniques, evidence collection, court testimony, and use of confidential informants.
  • Communicate findings to others orally or through spreadsheet format.
  • Use of strong time management skills.
Abilities needed:
  • Ability to find, collect, preserve and evaluate compiled information to determine the validity of alleged violation.
  • Ability to use a variety of equipment including but not limited to vehicles, 2-way radios, surveillance equipment, computers, and police issued equipment.
  • Must be able to handle a high volume of work and stressful situations.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
  • Ideal Candidates will have a minimum 5 years of law enforcement experience, with investigations experience. Be AZ POST certified and be Spanish speaking.
