Understand EOBs (Explanation of Benefits) denials/allowances
Resolve and troubleshoot outstanding claims through in-depth research and by utilizing insurance websites and provider services to determine what action is needed to obtain reimbursement
Track progress through claims coding, A/R reports, and follow up
Handle all incoming calls from customers and insurance companies professionally to solve billing questions and problems
Identify uncollectable balances and code and adjust the A/R billing system as necessary upon approval
Communicate special pricing issues appropriately to team leads
Recognize and communicate denial trends and payer issues appropriately to team leads and payer liaisons
Track and follow your progress through A/R aging reports and billed dashboard reporting
Document all work completed in detail on each account through notes in billing system
Process refund requests related to product returns, overpayments or incorrect billings.
Maintain high productivity level measured through metrics
Maintain high accuracy level measured through audits
Work special projects assigned by leadership
Responsible for one or more of the following activities: first/third party billing utilizing the patient financial information system, adjudicating claims, follow-up reviews, processing/tracking of submissions, remittances and rejections, inpatient/outpatient registration, cashiering, credit and collections, charge master maintenance, follow-up with insurance companies and patients to ensure that all patient accounts are paid in a timely fashion. Also responsible for performing a wide variety of duties to provide for the efficient and effective management of accounts receivable.
2+ years experience within a healthcare environment. Medical claims experience.
Additional Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of insurance company practices regarding reimbursement. Understanding of CPT and ICD codes. Strong verbal and written skills in order to effectively communicate with co-workers, insurance carriers, patients and medical office personnel.
