Your Role:
University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking to hire a Clinical Laboratory
Associate II, whom will report to a Team Leader in the VUMC Diagnostic Laboratories,
and will have overall responsibilities essential with supporting Vanderbilt’s
Clinical Pathology Services. Vanderbilt’s specimen receiving and processing
systems are highly sophisticated with upgraded automation, giving employee’s
the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art processes and bar coding systems
in a academic hospital setting to address high volume and abnormal specimens with intense turnaround

responsibilities include accessioning specimens or patient tissue materials for
testing, including packaging specimens or tissue materials to be sent out to a
referencing laboratory with minimal guidance. The CLA II works
cross-functionally with Vanderbilt’s diagnostic laboratories, Medical Center
clinicians, and external customers to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient
specimen processing. The CLA II will be tasked with providing the highest
standard of customer service at all times and in every situation, including intentional
awareness with in-person and telephone etiquette; as well as, possess the

Basic Qualifications


laboratory exposure with high volume automated specimen handling systems, as
part of the qualitative and quantitative analysis of human specimens

to detail, ability to work well under pressure with tight turnaround times, and
ability to adapt in a diverse, team-based culture

ability to deploy collaborative customer service tactics in a effective manner
that generates resolution and overcomes challenges with teammates, internal,
and external customers; while maintaining harmony

Minimum of 1 year diagnostic laboratory
experience with high volume specimen receiving, handling, accessioning, and
processing without error

Position Shift:
Full time with varied shifts
