This position is located within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Community Care (OCC) Delivery Operations, Claims and Adjudication Reimbursement (CAR). This position is responsible for the daily management of non---VA medical care mail distribution, scanning or claim forms and medical records, medical records indexing, medical claims verification, authorization data entry, record filing, and limited claims processing for the organization. Some of the major duties include:
Communicates with Veteran's to assist them in filing claims and explaining what action is required by the Veteran to assist them with filing claims;
Prioritizes and meets deadlines for the daily workflow which are set by the employee based on their knowledge of the overall functions and objectives of the organization;
Verifies specific data points are read by the scanning equipment accurately;
Corresponds with Veterans, Veteran's family members, and service officers to answer questions regarding eligibility and claims processing;
Tracks notes that ensure the dates of service have been reviewed by the nurse case manager and have been approved or denied.

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Reviews the Veteran's eligibility and determine if the services were for a service connected veteran or a non-service connected veteran, and determine if VA was notified timely of the emergency then assign the claims to the appropriate authority for claim processing.
Plans,organizes and carries out assignments in accordance with the established policies and practices of the office.
Determines if services were pre-authorized or unauthorized by reviewing data fields on the claim with any authorizations entered in the data system.
Scans medical documentation and indexes the medical records to the organization's electronic file;
Inputs and/or extracts data from the data systems as assigned. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 6 months of specialized experience and 3 years of education above the high school level).
