Temporary Exempt: This position and is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the appointing officer.

The Department of Public Health's Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Section is accepting applications for one (1) as-needed position in class 9924 Public Service Aide.

Under supervision, the 9924 Public Service Aide will assist and support OSH staff with administrative support and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordkeeping duties as follows:

Extracts information from incident reports and enters data into a computerized database;

Performs OSHA record-keeping duties;

Checks and reviews injury and illness reports and documents for completeness and accuracy;

Provides assistance to the SFDPH Ergonomics program which may include delivering equipment, learning to conduct chair fittings and evaluations, and keeping track of the inventory of ergonomic supplies;

Provides office administrative assistance such as answering phone calls, scheduling appointments and meetings, filing and maintaining OSH section documents, correspondence and records;

Drafts memos, creates and maintains office templates, documents, spreadsheets and training materials;

Processes, distributes OSH section mail and orders office supplies and materials;

Provides coverage for the OSH section during lunch periods;

Provides customer service to the public and Department of Public Health employees.

The 9924 Public Service Aide also performs other related duties as assigned/required.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university OR

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college, university or degree program.

Experience handling confidential documents.

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite particularly MS Word, Access and Excel.

Basic computer troubleshooting skills.
