This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-13. This position is located at the San Francisco VA Medical Center (SFVAMC) in the Office of the Director. The incumbent reports directly to the Chief of Planning and Outreach, and is a member of a small team of planners responsible for areas including development of the San Francisco VA Health Care System (SFVAHCS) organizational strategy, analysis of demography and epidemiology of the market area, focused studies on strategic issues, development of new organizational initiatives, long-range capital and facility planning and space optimization, planning for VA/DoD (Department of Defense) joint initiatives, and liaison with Veterans Integrated Service Network-21 (VISN-21), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Affairs Central Office (VACO) staff, and the staff of other federal and state agencies in respect to planning activities. The incumbent works with great independence but in the context of a multi-disciplinary planning team. The incumbent works closely with members of the SFVAMC engineering service, the Chiefs and staff of the various SFVAMC clinical specialties, and other staff members. The incumbent may occasionally be directly responsive to the Medical Center Director or Deputy Director as circumstances require.
