Definition – Operate radio, telephone, or computer equipment at emergency response centers. Receive reports from the public of crimes, disturbances, fires, and medical or police emergencies. Essential Functions
Question callers to determine their locations, and the nature of their problems to determine type of response needed.
Receive and transfer incoming telephone or alarm system calls regarding emergency and non-emergency police, information, and after-hours calls for departments within a city.
Determine response requirements and relative priorities of situations, and dispatch units in accordance with established procedures.
Record details of calls, dispatches, and messages.
Retrieve information from teletype networks and computerized data systems regarding such things as wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, and stolen vehicles.
Maintain access to, and security of, highly sensitive materials.

An equivalent combination of education and relevant work/industry/military/job specific experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties.

Environmental Conditions :
Indoor environment; environment may include noise; work with computers, files and phone.

Physical Conditions :
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking extended periods of time; light to moderate lifting and carrying; some crouching, stooping, squatting, crawling, reaching, pushing, and pulling when performing tasks; adequate vision, hearing, and speech required.
