Western City Magazine
Western City magazine is a monthly publication of the League of California Cities that is mailed to elected city officials and city department heads as a complimentary service of League membership. The magazine is also mailed to California state legislators, key policy-makers and opinion leaders. Western City provides lively, interdisciplinary analyses of issues affecting local governance in a format suited for busy people. Western City’s goal is to cover a range of immediately practical ideas, information and bigger-picture policy issues and trends for California city officials.
The Administrative Assistant, Western City Magazine
The magazine’s administrative assistant provides a wide range of clerical, administrative, and website support activities including maintaining, updating and posting website content; preparing, processing and composing correspondence and other documents; processing billings; extensive proofreading; maintaining advertising, subscription and author database; preparing mass mailings; filing; copying; responding to co-workers, city officials, authors, editor and advertisers in person, by telephone and via email; receiving and responding to telephone calls and emails; performing duties as assigned. Provides support to advertising manager and editor as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate will have a passion for journalism and communication. Two to three years experience performing administrative functions in a professional office environment. The candidate will have superior skills using Word, Excel, database applications and website content management systems; as well as demonstrated skills in general administrative office management, proofreading/editing, and writing. Experience in an advertising, publication or magazine production environment is preferred.
Equivalent to high school diploma; an Associate of Arts or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred
Work Schedule & Office Location
The League’s office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The work location is downtown Sacramento, 1400 K Street.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: Depends on Qualifications, Salary range starts at $33,843.
- Retirement: California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) 2% at 60 for classic CalPERS members; 2% at 62 for new CalPERS members.
- Deferred Compensation: Employees may defer up to $18,000 per year through the League’s ICMA/RC defined contribution plan.
- Health and Dental: Employees may select medical coverage from two HMO and one PPO plans; dental insurance is a PPO plan.
- Life Insurance: League-paid $50,000 life insurance coverage for employees; supplemental employee-paid coverage is available.
- Other Benefits: Under the League’s Section 125 Plan, employees may use a portion of their salaries on a pre-tax basis to cover child care and/or certain health care expenses.
