As a Behavioral Intake Counselor, you will be responsible for compassionately responding to incoming calls to conduct initial triage and provide counseling to members, always remembering that there is a real person on the other end of the phone who is looking for help, guidance, and support. This position is with the After Hours unit and employees are required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday - Sunday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8 hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 1:00 pm to 12:00 am Monday through Sunday. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime or weekends. Our office is located at 2000 West Loop South, Suite 900, Houston, TX 770277.

Primary Responsibilities:
Perform initial behavioral health triage of members’ calls in a compassionate manner within a call center environment

Analyze information provided by members and investigate members' questions and concerns

Provide explanation of Mental Health and Substance Abuse (MH/SA) benefits/coverages, benefit authorizations, treatment plan processing and assistance in finding behavioral health services

Provide MH/SA inpatient authorizations, and provide MH/SA referrals for providers for outpatient and inpatient services

Respond to calls on the National On Call Crisis Line, which may include calls from members in a mental health crisis. Responsible for identifying signs of suicidal risk, if present, and taking appropriate action to intervene, triage and involve additional appropriate personnel

Required Qualifications:
Master's Degree in a Behavioral Health field (Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services)

Familiarity with computer and Windows PC applications, which includes the ability to learn new and complex computer system applications

Ability to perform data entry proficiently while simultaneously speaking on the phone

Preferred Qualifications:
1+ years of Claims, Office, or Customer Service experience analyzing and solving customer problems

Knowledge of medical claims billing ICD10, CPT, HCPCS codes
