Job Summary

Oversee all aspects of service functions, including, but not limited to, staffing, human resource functions, training, service professional sales, and compliance with all state and federal regulations and laws, to ensure quality service to all customers and achieve performance objectives

Job Function and Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and assign tasks to service staff in their functional areas
  • Ability to properly identify insects, termites, other wood-destroying organisms/insects, pest harborage areas and conducive conditions
  • Draw diagrams/graphs of problem areas of infestation
  • Follow all product label instructions and safety precautions specific to each product
  • Mix and apply pesticides in an approved manner according to label directions
  • Inspect and maintain all service tools and equipment
  • Keep sufficient inventory of necessary replacement/spare equipment parts on hand for repair
  • Determine best long-term solutions for infestations and implement them
  • Utilize STEPS™ Total Protection System, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach and the STEPS™ Field Kit
  • While training employees, interact and ask questions of customers to determine best treatment solutions
  • Explain the procedures of treatment and answer all questions
  • Conduct employee field training and quality control audits
  • Inspect field work and ensure problems are resolved
  • Frequent ride-alongs with service professionals with report back to service center manager
  • While in the field, sell company services to existing and prospective customers
  • Provide marketing collateral to customer during field audits
  • Accurately report findings of all inspections and complete reports thoroughly
  • Provide customer with proper documentation of service
  • Maintain complete, accurate and legible records of all work performed

  • Assist service professionals by going out in to the field with the employee to view customers' premises and perform thorough pest inspection to determine proper course of treatment
  • Ensure all service professionals are adequately trained to perform their jobs
  • Review production and performance of service professionals according to company guidelines
  • Communicate service goals to all service professionals and provide specific directions and listen to employee feedback to achieve goals
  • Ensure the service professionals are scheduled appropriately so that they can have a productive day
  • Listen, respond to, and appropriately report questions and concerns from employees, reporting appropriate information to the Service Center Manager
  • Provide complete, accurate, and inspiring information to service professionals and prospective employees about their job role, the company and Corporate decisions
  • Communicate service issues and production information to the Service Center Manager immediately
  • Ensure that service professionals reflects the appropriate company image including meeting Hughes uniform guidelines and company-vehicle appearance
  • Communicate staffing and hiring issues to the Service Center Manager
  • Participating in the acquisition, screening, interviewing, and hiring of qualified employees according to company guidelines
  • Listen and respond to customer complaints or requests
  • Accept and make numerous phone calls
  • Ensure that service professionals are performing thorough and accurate inspections for Wood Destroying Organisms/Insects (WDO/WDI) and pest problems
  • Review treatment procedures with service professionals
  • Ensure that employees are executing appropriate treatments on customer premises
  • Travel to customer locations to inspect and evaluate services
  • Audit and approve service agreements
  • Assist Service Center Manager in maintaining proper inventory of pest control, termite, and related products and issue to service professionals as appropriate
  • Assist service professionals in collection efforts
  • Participate in and conduct meetings as required
  • Attend all service center training meetings or other specialized training and read all training material to include quarterly continuing education training for Household Pest Control (HPC) and Wood-Destroying Organisms (WDO), Public Health and/or additional training categories deemed necessary by management
  • Follow instructions and directions from Service Center Manager, Regional Vice President and Corporate Management
  • Possess a keen understanding of Pest Pac, Sentricon® handheld, routing and other tools
  • Assist with re-alignment of routes as necessary
  • Ability to navigate through Pest Pac and report gallery
  • Comply with all state and federal regulations
  • Ensure that employee Label/MSDS books are current in vehicles
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Maintain inventory
  • Assist with employee uniform rental/name badges
  • Perform other duties as required by management
  • Assist in training of new employees
  • May wear protective gear
  • May maintain a company vehicle
  • May perform recommended treatments

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Ability to properly identify insects, termites, other wood-destroying organisms/insects, pest harborage areas and conducive conditions
  • Knowledge of proper treatment methods for pests
  • Knowledge of inspections requirements for wood-destroying organisms and pest problems in residences and commercial establishments
  • Ability to perform recommended treatments
  • Understanding of STEPS™ Total Protection System, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and the field kit
  • Knowledge of residential, commercial, and remodeling construction and building techniques
  • Comfortable wearing safety equipment including respirator, goggles, and/or other PPE per label direction
  • Comfortable in small, cramped places (i.e. crawlspaces)
  • Able to safely operate a vehicle with an automatic or manual transmission
  • Reading, legible & accurate writing, and drawing
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of job descriptions and requirements for service professionals
  • Knowledge of company policies and procedures
  • Able to give, accept and apply constructive feedback and criticism
  • Familiarity with all equipment used to execute treatments
  • Basic math skills
  • Drug-free
  • Able to pass a pre-employment background check
  • Ability to pass any state regulatory agency required licensing/certification exams

  • One year or more experience working in the Pest Control Industry in some capacity or similar service industry

Travel Requirements

Possess current Driver License in the state where you work, ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a driving record consistent with company standards
